Most people who call about armed security in Los Angeles have one question: will an armed guard make things safer, or just make things tense? We think the answer depends on how the guard is trained to think. GOLDNBEAR SECURITY is a veteran-owned private security company headquartered at 811 W 7th St in Downtown Los Angeles, with offices in Santa Monica and Downey. We've been serving Los Angeles since 2004. Since 2018 we've held California BSIS Private Patrol Operator license PPO 120234, and we're bonded and insured. Our approach is simple: prevention-first security. Psychology, not intimidation.
Armed protection that starts before anything happens
A firearm is a last resort, not the plan. What protects your site day to day is an officer who notices things early. The person circling the lot twice. The car parked facing the exit. The customer asking the wrong questions about closing time. Our armed officers are trained to read behavior and act on warning signs early and calmly, with a greeting, a question, a visible presence at the right spot. That way most situations never reach the point where anyone reaches for anything.
That's the difference between an armed guard who intimidates and one who prevents. Intimidation tends to escalate. Calm, confident attention tends to end things quietly.
When armed security makes sense
Not every site needs an armed officer, and we'll tell you if yours doesn't. Armed coverage is usually worth discussing when:
- Your business handles cash, high-value merchandise, or controlled products
- You have received a credible threat, or there is a documented pattern of incidents at or near your location
- Your site operates late at night or in an isolated area
- An executive, family, or event needs a higher level of protection for a specific period
If unarmed officers, better lighting, or a change in how your entrance is managed would solve the problem, we'll say so. The right level of force is the lowest one that does the job.
What California requires, and what to ask any company
In California, every security company must hold a Private Patrol Operator license from the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS). Every guard needs a BSIS guard registration, and an armed guard also needs a BSIS exposed firearm permit. You can look up any company's license on the Department of Consumer Affairs license search at search.dca.ca.gov. Ours is PPO 120234. Before you hire anyone, ask to see the license, and ask how their officers are trained to de-escalate. It's a fair question, and the answer tells you a lot.
Services we provide across Los Angeles
Armed officers are one part of what we do. Depending on your site, we may recommend combining them with:
- Unarmed security guards for lobbies, front desks, and customer-facing posts
- Event security for private events, venues, and productions
- Executive protection for individuals and families who need close protection
- Undercover protection, with officers who blend in so a problem never sees them coming
- Construction site security for active builds and equipment yards
- Retail security for storefronts and shopping centers
Where we work
We're based in Downtown Los Angeles and cover the city and surrounding communities, including Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Santa Monica, and Downey, where we have offices. We're available 24/7.
How it works
- Call or request a free quote. Tell us what's going on and what worries you.
- We assess the site. We look at entrances, sight lines, lighting, hours, and the people who come and go, and we recommend the lowest level of force that fits.
- We write post orders for your site. Your officers know exactly what to watch for and what to do.
- We stay in touch. You get a clear point of contact and we adjust as your needs change.
What to have ready when you call
You don't need a finished security plan to get a quote. It helps to know:
- The address and type of site (storefront, office, warehouse, residence, event venue)
- The days and hours you want covered
- What's worrying you: a specific incident, a pattern, a threat, or just a feeling that something is off
- Anything you already have in place, such as cameras, alarms, lighting, or staff who lock up
From there, we'll talk through options, including whether armed coverage is actually the right call for you. If a smaller change would solve the problem, we'll tell you.
Why prevention beats reaction
A guard who only reacts is always a step behind. By the time something happens, the damage, the fear, and the liability are already there. A guard who prevents changes the math for anyone watching your site. They see someone paying attention, making eye contact, and noticing details, and they usually move on. That's the result we're after: nothing happens, and the day stays ordinary.
